The Peroneus Longus is a muscle located on the lateral side of the lower leg, playing a crucial role in foot and ankle movement by aiding in plantarflexion and eversion of the foot. It stabilizes the arch of the foot by supporting the transverse arch during walking and standing. Furthermore, it contributes to the dynamic function of pushing off the ground during locomotion.

The name "peroneus" is derived from the Greek word "perone," meaning "pin or brooch," hinting at its long and slender shape along the fibula. "Longus" indicates it is the longer of the peroneus muscles.

Without the Peroneus Longus, an individual would experience instability in the ankle and foot, impacting their ability to maintain balance, especially on uneven surfaces, and impairing the efficient push-off phase in walking or running. This would lead to difficulties in performing activities that require coordination and agility, such as climbing stairs or running.
