Welcome!

This site is to help you memorize artistic anatomy. The first step to mastering artistic anatomy is to take the time to memorize the names of all the muscles and bones important to an artist.

Once you have these memorized and you can recognize them, you've created a foundation on which you can develop your own unique understanding of the human form. You will no longer see the human form as a confusing collection of bumps and shapes, but an organized whole built out of forms and masses that you will intuitively understand.

The process of memorizing these parts takes some effort. I've created this site with the following in mind to make this process easy:

  • I've selected the subset of concepts of muscles and bones that are important to artists. They are primarily either muscles that are visible or bones and muscles that play an important role in artistic anatomy. This is to help you avoid getting lost in the subject, and spend time on parts of anatomy that may be relevant to medical professionals but not artists.
  • I've implemented a rating system for your recall. Use this to help you separate items you know well (mark as easy) from items you don't.
  • I've organized all the items into groups, also so you can see your progress in terms of the whole and know what to focus on.

Let's go!
