Extensor Digitorum Brevis is a small muscle located on the top of the foot that helps extend the toes, playing a crucial role in balancing and stabilizing the foot during locomotion. It complements the function of other extensor muscles by facilitating precise toe movements and aiding in dorsiflexion of the foot. This muscle supports intricate movements necessary for activities like running and walking on uneven surfaces.

The term "extensor digitorum brevis" is derived from Latin, with "extensor" meaning "to extend," "digitorum" referring to "of the fingers or toes", and "brevis" meaning "short," indicating its role and relative size in comparison to other muscles.

If the Extensor Digitorum Brevis were absent or damaged, the ability to precisely extend the toes would be compromised, affecting balance, foot stabilization, and the capacity to perform movements that require dorsiflexion, such as efficient walking and running.
