Buccinator is a thin, quadrilateral muscle forming the anterior part of the cheek. It functions primarily in compressing the cheek against the teeth, playing a crucial role in mastication, and aiding in processes like sucking and blowing.

The name "buccinator" is derived from the Latin word "buccinare," meaning "to blow a trumpet," reflecting its role in activities such as blowing.

Without the buccinator, the human body would struggle with tasks such as chewing efficiently, sucking, and controlling food and liquid inside the mouth, which are fundamental for proper eating and speaking.
