The corrugator supercilii is a small, narrow muscle located at the medial end of the eyebrow beneath the frontalis and orbicularis oculi muscles. It primarily functions to draw the eyebrows downward and medially, creating vertical wrinkles above the nose and playing a key role in expressions of frowning or concern. This muscle supports facial expressions that communicate emotions such as worry or concentration.

The name "corrugator" is derived from the Latin word "corrugo," meaning to wrinkle. This reflects the muscle's function in creating lines or wrinkles on the forehead.

Without the corrugator, humans would struggle to frown effectively, reducing the ability to express emotions like anger, frustration, or contemplation through facial expressions. The absence or damage to this muscle would affect nonverbal communication and emotional expression.
