Procerus is a small pyramidal muscle located at the bridge of the nose, playing a key role in facial expression by pulling the skin between the eyebrows downward. It aids in forming horizontal wrinkles over the nose and helps convey emotions such as frowning or concentration. Functioning as part of the complex system of facial muscles, it contributes to nuanced expressions.

The name "Procerus" comes from Latin, meaning "tall" or "extended," likely referring to the elongated shape and vertical alignment of the muscle fibers.

Without the Procerus, the ability to form specific facial expressions, especially those involving frowning or disdain, would be significantly impaired. Its absence would result in a less dynamic and expressive face, affecting communication and emotional expression.
