The nasal bones are paired bones that form the bridge of the nose, providing structural support for the upper portion of the nasal cavity. These small, rectangular bones articulate with the frontal bone above and the maxilla laterally, helping to protect the nasal cavity and maintain the characteristic shape of the nose. The nasal bones also serve as attachment points for muscles and cartilages that contribute to facial expression and nasal function.

The term "nasal" comes directly from the Latin word "nasus" meaning nose. The simplicity of the name reflects its straightforward anatomical location and function.
