The ulna is the medial forearm bone that provides stability at the elbow through its distinctive olecranon process. It pairs with the radius to enable forearm rotation while remaining relatively stationary itself. The ulna connects to the humerus at the elbow and the wrist bones distally, offering attachment points for many forearm muscles.

The name "ulna" comes from the Latin word ulna, meaning "elbow" or "forearm," reflecting its role in forming the hinge joint at the elbow. Historically, ulna also referred to a measuring unit based on forearm length.
