The infraspinatus is a triangular muscle located on the back of the shoulder, covering the infraspinous fossa of the scapula. It is one of the four rotator cuff muscles and plays a crucial role in externally rotating the arm and stabilizing the shoulder joint. It also helps control arm movement during lifting and reaching motions.
The name "infraspinatus" comes from the Latin infra- (below) and spina (spine), referring to its position below the spine of the scapula.
