Extensor Carpi Ulnaris is a muscle located on the ulnar side of the forearm, primarily responsible for extending and adducting the wrist. It facilitates counterbalancing during hand movements and contributes to the stability of the wrist when grasping or holding objects. The muscle plays a pivotal role in coordinated hand and wrist actions, particularly in activities requiring precise extension and ulnar deviation.

The name "Extensor Carpi Ulnaris" derives from Latin, where "extensor" refers to its function in extending, "carpi" pertains to the wrist (carpus), and "ulnaris" indicates its position along the ulna bone.

Without the Extensor Carpi Ulnaris, an individual would struggle with extending the wrist effectively, reducing their ability to perform tasks that require a strong, stable hand position. Activities involving wrist adduction such as typing, lifting, or fine motor skills like playing a musical instrument would be significantly impaired.
