Thenar Eminence is the muscular area on the palm of the hand that lies beneath the thumb. It facilitates a range of thumb movements including gripping, pinching, and opposition, essential for fine motor skills. This group of muscles provides the thumb with its dexterity and strength.

The term "thenar" comes from the Greek word "thenar" which means palm of the hand. "Eminence" refers to a raised area, indicating its prominent position on the palm.

If the thenar eminence were absent or damaged, the hand would lose its ability to perform precise movements such as gripping and manipulating small objects, significantly impacting tasks that require dexterity such as writing or buttoning clothes.
