Tensor Fascia Lata is a small muscle located in the thigh that plays a crucial role in stabilizing the hip and knee joints. It works with the iliotibial tract to assist in the abduction and medial rotation of the thigh. This muscle helps maintain balance while walking or running by keeping the pelvis level.

The name "Tensor Fascia Lata" comes from Latin, where "tensor" means "stretcher", "fascia" refers to a "band", and "lata" means "broad", describing the muscle's role in tensing the fascia lata.

Without the Tensor Fascia Lata, the stability of the hip and knee would be compromised, leading to difficulties in maintaining balance during ambulation and possibly causing abnormal gait patterns or increased strain on the lower limb joints.
